Roles of the Members of the Research and Publications Committee

  • Provide external peer review of all research proposals submitted from faculties/institutes to the University for funding out of the University Research Fund to ensure that they reflect the research focus areas of the University.
  • Act as an expert peer review panel to ensure that research proposals submitted meet national and internationally recognized quality standards.
  • Chair your unit/faculty Research Committee that is tasked with providing peer scrutiny of all research proposals before they are forwarded to Directorate of Research for grant support.
  • Ensure that the members of your units/faculty/schools attend the capacity building activities organized by the Directorate of Graduate Studies Research and Enterprise and other organizations.
  • Ensure that training in research methodology are offered to all their students in your faculty/unit/institute.
  • Ensure that researchers from your faculties /units/institutes report on the progress of their research projects in accordance with specified reporting guidelines.
  • Provide information on ongoing research projects in your faculties/institutes /units to the Directorate of Graduate Studies Research and Enterprise.

Research Teams

The university has research teams of various disciplines, domiciled at each of its five faculties and two schools. The head of the research teams in these units constitute the members of the research and publications committee. There are various ongoing and past research done by these teams with the research grants resources available for them as you will find in their various website.

University support for Research capacity building

The university runs a research fund that is given to its staff and students to motivate and catalyze their interest and involvement in research activities. The criteria for access to this support is as detailed in the attached file (UPLOAD CRITERIA FOR ACCESS TO THE UNIVERSITY RESEARCH FUND HERE).  

Still under support for research and research capacity building, the university has its own Research Ethics Committee (REC) and is in the process of registering its REC with the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE),(PROVIDE LINK TO NCHE WEBSITE HERE) and membership to the Uganda Martyrs University REC are as follows

2.4 Community Engagement

The directorate heads the community engagement activities of the university through the deputy director, with support from the head of education for sustainable development and community engagement. Community Engagement of the university is pegged on the university Community engagement policy (ATTACH UMU COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT POLICY)

There is a Community engagement committee that helps in planning for, streamlining and reporting on the community engagement done by the different faculties, schools and units of the university with current membership as shown.

Roles of the Community Engagement Committee

  • Coordinate and report on all community engagement activities done in your faculty/unit/institute, to the community engagement committee.
  • Work with the community engagement coordinator at the directorate of graduate studies research and enterprise to;
  • Plan for and budget for community engagement activities
  • Draw up planning, Initiation, Implementation, and Monitoring and Evaluation tools and MoUs for use in community engagement projects of the Uganda Martyrs University. 
  • Write/endorse relevant /important documents and tools to be used at the different levels in the university community engagement activities.

Community Engagement Teams

Each faculty, school and units of the university undertake community engagement of their own, under the leadership of their member who represents them in the university community engagement committee (CREATE LINK AND LINK TO FACULTIES/SCHOOLS/UNITS’ COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT REPRESENTATIVE IN THE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE AND TO THEIR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES, PARTNERS AND RESOURCES PAGE).

The university community engagement activities and programmes are given policy guidance by the senate committee on community engagement. Membership to the senate committee on community engagement currently are as follows.

2.5 Enterprise

The DGSRE, Enterprise unit is new and currently being developed. The enterprise activities is guided among others by the university Intellectual property policy (ATTACH THE POLICY HERE ), the unit will work with the research unit to drive the university innovations. The university will work collaboratively with partners in its enterprise ventures and current partners to the university include industries, granting instututions, government among others (CREATE LINK TO UNIVERSITY PARTNERS UNDER PROJECTS AND LINKS WITH ALL FACULTIES AND SCHOOLS/UNITS WITH THE PROJECTS

Projects

The DGSRE houses the university project management unit and has a full time staff in charge of oversight overall on all university projects. Projects of the university are guided by the current Project management policy (ATTACH Projects POLICY HERE), the university has and employs a projectr monitoring and evaluation framework (ATTACH THE MONITORING AND EVALUATION FRAMEWORK HERE AND ALSO LINK TO QUALITY ASSURANCE DIRECTORATE).

All University projects are implemented by different staff in its different faculties, schools and units. The staff write project proposals and once they win grants, the projects are implemented in compliance with the university project management policy. Information ongoing projects, incoming and past projects of the university are thus available with the respective staff and units where the projects where implemented.
